“Ham Choi”: (Play Too Much)
What the quarantine has provided us is an opportunity to revert to our youthful years. In fact, quarantine was never a new concept growing up as a Vietnamese child. I recall my parents forbade me to play outside because of the unknown force of our environment. This forced me to create a world of my own in the confined space we called home.
Here we are again, in 2020, when the echoes of the past manifest its way into the present. “Shelter in place” has become “shelter in playground” once again. In this series, my partner and I explore what it means to “Ham Choi” (Vietnamese phrase for play too much).
